We've learned about Native stereotypes and reservation life. Time to meet our main character!
His name is Arnold Spirit and he's a funny little guy. We read to page twenty-five today and learned an awful lot about Arnold in those pages. We decided that his realistic persona and use of language that actual teens would use makes him seem more real. You also liked the inclusion of his comics.
You also liked Rowdy, his best friend and most of you could relate to having to lose a pet that you felt was more than just a pet. We talked about poverty and the area that we live in compared to Arnold's reservation.
