End of Year Survey
Here is our last survey of the year. Phew. Please complete this survey to help in my quest to become a more effective teacher. It's important to hear your feedback and your thoughts in relation to this course. I thank you in advance for your feedback.
Midterm: Senior English
For your midterm, I'd like you to pull together the pieces of your Oh, The Places You'll Go essay and send them to me electronically. The pieces that you should have typed are:
-Your "Hook" post on your blog
-Your explanation post of where you'll be in 5-15 years
-Your Doughnut Hole blog post
Please open a blank pages document, paste these three paragraphs in the document in the order listed above. Send your pages document to me in an email. This document will count as a rough draft of your essay. We'll make it more cohesive on Monday and these two assignments together will count as your midterm exam.

Midterm: Freshman English
For your midterm, you're going to write a series of blog posts. For each post, I will be looking for the following criteria:
Evidence of Critical Thinking: Thoughtful observations, connections between readings and the larger world and/or your life, and growth in your thoughts/ observations from the beginning of the year.
Evidence of Critical Reading: Evidence of thorough readings, comprehension of reading materials, insightful reflections, and connections between readings materials.
Evidence of Creative Thinking: Inclusion of photographs, music, videos, or other media that enhances the presentation of the post; original ideas presented in readings are extended in a creative manner.
Evidence of the Ability to Write Clearly and Effectively: Grammar, spelling, capitalization errors do not interfere with audience understanding. The structure of your blog posts allows for understanding and is easy to follow.
Evidence of Awareness of Diverse Audience: Opinions, justifications, rationalizations, and summaries are written in a way that allows a diverse audience to understand your intent. Writings are not offensive, but engage audience members in your ideas and opinions in a creative manner.

There are two parts to your midterm exam. In the first part, you're going to show off some the skills you've learned this semester. Here's what you need to do for the first part:
1. Take a screen shot of your grades on powerschool and attach it as a JPEG in an email to me.
2. Compose an etiquette-filled email explaining how you feel about the grades you've earned this semester. **Don't focus on the negative!**
3. In your email, explain what goals you've met AND a goal or two that you have for next quarter.
4. Make sure that you're specific in your goals. Don't just say that you'd like to do better; talk about specific classes and specific goals that you have for your grades/ participation/ efforts in your classes.
5. Make sure that you talk about at least ONE accomplishment that you've made this semester that you're proud of.
Once you're done with your email and you've sent it off to me, please complete this survey.
Though some of you do not have me as an English teacher, this information will be a valuable tool for me to use in thinking about how all students in my classes are using technology.
