Quote of the Week

This week's quote reminded me so much of our "Rural Life 101" project that I could not help but choose it as our Quote of the Week. It comes from Louisa May Alcott, who used her experiences growing up in Massachusetts in the 1800's as the background for her novels. Here is her quotation:

"Do the things you know, and you shall learn the truth you need to know."

I find that some students and writers do not realize that they have a wealth of interesting truths to share about life when they draw from their surroundings and their personal experiences. Some of you have been inspired to share you ideas about growing up in rural Maine, but others of you need some convincing to see that what you've already experienced in your life is valuable and worth telling. When you start the writing and creative process from your own perspective or truth, you will always know that your product will have a truthful flavor about it in the end. Keep working, keep creating, and keep revealing the truth!
