"The Message" by Grandmaster Flash: Connections to Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone
Today's Poetry Friday lesson takes us two places in time. One is the inner city of the early 1980's with Grandmaster Flash's famous song "The Message". The other is the civil war of the 1990's in Sierra Leone. Obviously, there are some serious differences between these two environments but there are also some elements that tie them together. War, chaos, unpredictable environments, loss of life and family, and governments who do not take care of their citizens.

After listening to this song and reading the lyrics, you all are going to locate quotations in the lyrics that relate to Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone. Then you'll create a blog post where you explain the relationship between the song and the book. Please include a picture that relates to the subject of this post.
