Though this week is a short one, I managed to finish The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman rather quickly. This fantasy novel takes place in a futuristic time where a leader called "Earth Mother" controls the people and attempts to control the weather. This Mother has taken away all controversial books and songs from the people of the Earth and has segregated the population onto weather controlled islands. Neighborhoods are watched and children are policed at their schools. There is little room for free thinkers and/ or dissenters in this new world.
This read was pretty entertaining, though not always super believable. I bet, though, that a lot of you who crave fantasy novels and other-worldly type stories will want to read this book. The ending definitely leaves room for a sequel for those of you who are into reading series books.
