Hello everyone! This is an area online where you can access links to my favorite sites, work to complete some of your in-class assignments, and find out what you missed if you were absent.
Double Consciousness Illustrated
On page fifty-seven of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Arnold describes the difference between himself and a white student. He points to the obvious differences in clothing and accessories, as well as differences in feelings ("hope" versus "bone-crushing realty") and in their history ("a bright future" versus "a vanishing past").
For the last part of today's class, you all recreated this assignment based on two halves that you've identified in your life. Some of you chose to depict who you are when you feel conflicting emotions, while others decided to recreate who they are in different settings (as in, school versus home). I am excited to see how these turn out; you all got down to business right away and didn't make any sound for a long, long time.
We read to page 101 in today's class. If you were absent, you need to complete this reading and draw your Double Consciousness Comic.
