Making of a Monster

After today's SSR, we set up our classroom to look like a courtroom and proceeded to read from Walter Dean Myer's Monster. The first step in this process was to do a walk-through of the book to see about the structure and setup of the novel. You noticed many important aspects of the novel, like:

-it's a script and a journal combined
-it has won several awards
-it there are pictures included
-the font on the cover looks like a jail stencil
-the picture on the cover looks like a mugshot
-the cover leads us to this that the book will be dark in nature

It's important to do a walk through before reading a book because it helps to give you an idea of what you're in for, so to speak. After completing this discussion, you all sat in the courtroom and you played a variety of parts, including a judge, convicts, prosecutors, defense lawyers, witnesses, and jury members. We had some discussion as we read and managed to read to about page twenty five.

We'll pick up where we left off next class. If you were absent, please see me about completing this work.
