Capital punishment, or the death penalty is widely debated in our country. In Monster, the main character Steve Harmon is accused of participating in a robbery where an innocent man was murdered. We now know that the prosecutor of this case has not recommended the death penalty, but there was some talk of it earlier in the book.
Today, I want to know your opinion of capital punishment. Specifically, I want to know whether or not you feel that Maine should reinstate the death penalty. To help gauge the variety of opinions in the room, we're going to Think-Pair-Share using our blogs. Here's what you'll do:
1. Create a new blog post with the title "My Opinion: Capital Punishment"
2. Write silently for five minutes about this topic. Make sure you explain your opinion well.
3. After 5 minutes, check other students' blogs and leave comments about whether you disagree or agree with their opinions. We'll use another 5 minutes for this purpose.
