Last class, you all were focused on locating two quotations from The Hunger Games that showed the poverty of the people, like Katniss and Gale, who live in the Seam. Today, we looked at another characteristic of a dystopian society--A totalitarian government.
Ms. Audy started today's instruction with a definition of the word "totalitarian". She then asked you all to make connections to the definition from your understanding totalitarian governments in history, to movies you've seen, and video games you've played. You brainstormed a wide variety of text connections to this definition, including references to Hilter, North Korea, video games and several movies.
After this introduction, Ms. Audy read aloud to the end of chapter two. You all worked to locate two quotations that prove the totalitarian structure of the Capitol. Next class, we'll pick up where we left off--With Katniss and Peeta starting their adventure as tributes in the Hunger Games!
