Poem in Your Pocket Day with Sandra Cisneros

Today we celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day! Check out the Poem in Your Pocket Glog I created for our celebration! I first went over the background of Poem in Your Pocket Day. We then read the poem the holiday was inspired by, "Keep a Poem in Your Pocket." We watched a Youtube video by the Poet's Academy, and then read Sandra Cisneros's poem, "Good Hot Dogs." Everything is available on the glog!

After this, I conducted a mini lesson on short sentences/lines (which is also linked to on the glog). Students then wrote their own poems about one of the following topics:

An article of clothing or piece of jewelry you own.

OR

A simple memory that is meaningful to you.

We spent the rest of class completing this task as well as making pockets out of paper to tuck the poems into. This artifact will be part of the students' vignette projects that we are working on!
