Today in class, we did an activity that combined Poem in Your Pocket Day with The Hunger Games. We conquered the task of deciding on a poem to put in Katniss and Peeta's pockets as they entered the Hunger Games. We visited poets.org and explored poems by category. From here, we selected poems that we felt Katniss or Peeta would be able to relate to. Each student chose two lines from a poem that they felt would be inspirational to Peeta and Katniss in the arena. These lines were written on post it notes, which were then stuck on a large pair of paper pants for either Katniss or Peeta.
After this, we read about Katniss's struggles with a fire trap set by the gamemakers! We left off at a point where Katniss was badly wounded, and considering her next plan of action.
After reading, we went over the instructions for an upcoming research project. This project will be completed in the form of a Glog. Each student will be assigned a famous figure who rebelled against society in a way.
Check out the sample Glog!
