Day of Tears Reading and List Poem

To start with, we finished reading the section that we started last class. This reading covered pages 80 to 98. Several of you did an excellent job of reading aloud.

After the reading, we moved to an extension project. This project required you to use your empathy skills to put yourself in the place of a slave being sold at auction. You can choose the character from the lists of slave names and prices listed on pages 80 and 81. Each line of your minimum eight-line poem will start with "I am", "I will", "I need", or another "I" statement. Try to capture what your character must be thinking, feeling, fearing, and wishing during their time on the auction block.

Once you're finished with your rough draft, you may type it and decorate it. Be creative and empathetic!
