The End of Animalism

We've done it. We've finished Animal Farm. Most of you reported that you were not at all pleased with the ending of the story, but I enjoyed it. I think that it would be ridiculous to put a 'happy' ending onto a book of this magnitude. I think that Orwell prepares for an UNhappy ending throughout the book with Benjamin's comments and insights.

Doesn't this book end exactly as Benjamin predicted all along? With history repeating itself? Is there ever a 'happy' ending to a government's existence?

Next class, we'll bridge from this text to another that addresses power, control, violence, and corruption. Our next title is The Crucible by Arthur Miller and it's about the Salem Witch Trials.
