This week's book also happens to be the December Chick Lit selection. It's called Cut and is written by Patricia McCormick. This story is about a teen girl named Callie who has some troubles with her family life and in dealing her guilt about an incident where her younger brother almost died. Callie keeps her emotions inside rather than talking about them, which leads her to cut herself.
When we meet Callie, she's in a therapeutic program for teens who are self-abusive. She is one of the only cutters, but there are several other teens who hurt themselves as a way to deal with their own issues.
As this short novel progresses, we start to see Callie as more and more emotionally stable. I won't give away the ending, but I think it's a pretty realistic one. I enjoyed this book because it seemed fairly realistic and it was a quick read.
If you'd like to read this book, there should be an extra copy of it on the free reading shelves at the back of the room.
