The Road Not Taken

Today, we have an abbreviated schedule. First, we will read the Robert Frost Poem, "The Road Not Taken," and consider how this relates to Into The Wild. After discussing this, we will spend the remainder of class exploring information about people who, much like Chris McCandless, made a choice to abandon one lifestyle and begin a completely new one. You will watch a video on one of the people below, and in a blog, respond to the following questions:

1. How is this person's path different from the usual path society sets for people?
2. What can we learn from this person's life?
3. Is your path different from the usual path taken? How?
4. What can we learn from your life?

(Remember to include a picture in your blog post).

Julia Butterfly Hill: This woman lived in a tree for two years in protest of trees being cut down.

Pat Tillman: This American NFL player joined the military after 9/11.

Timothy Treadwell: Also known as Grizzly Man, he went into the wild to live with the bears.

Oprah: Young Women Becoming Nuns: A group of young women are featured on Oprah discussing their choices to become a nun.

Umar Farouk Abdulmatallab: A wealthy young man who made the decision to become a terrorist.

MTV: Summit on the Summit: A group of stars (Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch, Isabel Lucas, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco and Santigold) leave behind their privileged lives for a while climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Happy blogging!
