Today, we spent the majority of class reading, and read up to page 26 in The House on Mango Street. We made quite a few text-to-life connections throughout each chapter--for instance, when we read the chapter titled "Meme Ortiz," we discussed the irony of Meme being crowned winner of the Tarzan jumping contest, but also breaking his arm, and thought about if we had ever been in a similar situation. We also searched for and wrote down short sentences as we read. We will pick up on the vignette titled "Marin" next class.
After we read, we finished our writing activities that we began a couple of classes ago, writing about streets that we either currently, or used to live on.
